This policy covers the SangoAI website at sangoai.app and the SangoAI Android app, which is the same website presented as an app. There is no separate mobile service: whatever is described here applies to both.

What we collect

Your account. If you create one, we hold the email address you sign up with and the display name you choose. You can use most of SangoAI without an account.

What you type into SangoAI. Text you translate, messages you send to the chat assistant, and corrections you submit are sent to our servers so they can be answered or reviewed. Please do not put personal or confidential information into these fields — treat them as you would a public search box.

Corrections you contribute. If you submit a correction to the Sango lexicon, it is stored and reviewed by a human. Contributions may be published in open language datasets. Publication uses the alias you choose, which defaults to Anonymous — never your email address, and never your account name unless you set it as your alias yourself.

Your learning progress. Quiz results, vocabulary progress and experience points. These are kept in your browser, and synchronised to your account if you are signed in so they follow you between devices.

Feedback you send. The message you write, plus technical details about the page you were on.

Payments. Handled by our payment processor. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active and an identifier for it. We never see or store your card number.

Analytics — only if you agree. We use Google Analytics to understand which parts of SangoAI get used. It loads only after you accept on the cookie banner. Decline, and nothing is loaded and no analytics cookie is stored. You can change your mind at any time.

Your email address and your name are never sent to our analytics provider. If you are signed in, analytics sees an anonymous account identifier and your interface language — nothing that names you.

Error reports. When something breaks, technical diagnostics are sent to an error-monitoring service so we can fix it: the error, the page, the browser. These reports can include the URL you were on.

Your microphone. Pronunciation practice asks your browser for permission to record, and does two separate things with the result.

  • The recording you play back is created in your browser and never reaches us. It is discarded when you leave the page.
  • To tell you whether you said the word correctly, the page uses your browser's own speech recognition. On Chrome and most other browsers that feature works by sending the audio to the browser vendor's servers for transcription. It does not pass through us, we never receive the recording, and we cannot see or control what the vendor does with it — but your voice does leave your device, and you should know that before you use the feature.

If you would rather that did not happen, do not grant the microphone permission, or avoid the pronunciation exercise. Everything else in SangoAI works without it.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your location. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

What is stored on your device

SangoAI keeps small values in your browser's local storage so it works and remembers your preferences: your interface language, your cookie choice, your learning progress and vocabulary progress, your session list, whether you have seen the onboarding and various banners, and your sound preference. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it.

Why we are allowed to use it (legal bases)

  • To provide the service you asked for — your account, translations, chat, your progress, and your subscription. Without this data those features cannot work.
  • Your consent — analytics, and the microphone. Both are optional and both can be withdrawn.
  • Our legitimate interest — keeping SangoAI working and secure, which is what error reports are for.
  • A legal obligation — records we are required to keep, such as for tax.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions: cloud hosting and infrastructure, a payment processor, an authentication provider, an error-monitoring service, and an analytics provider. We do not authorise any of them to use your data for their own purposes.

Some of these providers operate outside the European Union. Where that happens, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Your account and the progress attached to it are kept for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and they are removed.

Corrections you have contributed are an exception: once reviewed and published in an open dataset, they cannot be withdrawn from copies already distributed. They carry your chosen alias, not your identity.

Analytics and error reports are kept for a limited period by the providers that handle them and are not linked to your account.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or provide it in a portable form. You can also withdraw a consent you gave, at any time, without affecting what was done beforehand.

You can do three of these yourself, right now:

  • Export your data — Settings → Export Data.
  • Delete your account — Settings → Delete Account.
  • Change your analytics choice — the cookie banner.

For anything else, email contact@meyng.com. We will reply within one month.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In France this is the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Children

SangoAI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
